Drug use of teens : to be fit in their groups

Image
Making friends and establishing oneself at school can be difficult for adolescents. The teenage years often come with many insecurities, low self-esteem, and fear of not being accepted. In order to fit in, to feel “cool,” or join an older, more seductive social circle, many teens will start buying and using drugs.

Society's approach towards HIV/AIDS affected people.

Correlation between Easy availability of drugs and addiction

Image
There is a huge positive correlation between availability of drugs and addiction among adolescents. Easy availability means the drugs or alcohol using by family members and elders... Or from peers.  Due to this in the absence of family members childeren try to use those drugs and gradually may get addicted to it. Or by the influence of addicted peers they may get forced to use it.

Influence of movies to adolescents in using drugs and alcohol

Image
Movies and shows have a great influence in adolescents in order to use drugs or alcohol in their life.  Childern often see in movies where heros use alcohol and after that they become powerful to fight with enemies or they use drugs to gain more courage to face any situation. Also it shows going a bar party with friends is very much enjoyment like partying, dancing etc... attract their mind. All of these make children to believe that drinking alcohol or use of drugs helps them in many ways like it is helpful for enjoyment, to show heroism and to obtain more courage if needed.

Child sexual exploitation

Child sexual exploitation (CSE) has been defined by the National Working Group for Sexually Exploited Children and Young People. It is the involvement of those aged less than 18 in exploitative situations, contexts and relationships where the young people (or a third person or persons) receive something (eg food, alcohol, cigarettes, affection gifts) as a result of them and/or others engaging in sexual activities. It is an abuse of power by those exploiting by virtue of their age, gender, intellect, physical strength and/or economic or other resources.

Sexual and reproductive health knowledge.

Adolescent girls and young women lacked information regarding their sexual health, services available, and redress mechanisms for rights violations. Formal sources of information were frequently inaccessible. Family members were sometimes the source of rights violations, and informal methods of redressing rights were often sought. Stigma and fear were common features both in healthcare and in the pursuit of formal justice, with duty-bearers habitually breaking confidentiality. Education and training were the predominant suggestions offered for change.

Do staring cause one pregnant?

Image
This is one of the most irritating myths on sexual and reproductive health of adolescents. The reason for spreading of this kind of misinformation is actually unknown to the society. But we can interpret it as: in order to avoid relationships with boys or men. This misinformation affect the behaviour of adolescent girls badly like, fear to stand in front of boys, having no communication with opposite sex etc.  Every adolescents should know that, no one could get pregnant if someone stares at them.

Can STIs transmitted through toilet?

Image
No one can deny that an uncleaned public toilet seat can be incredibly gross. Even so, it may be refreshing to know that the germs making their way onto the toilet seat or rim are unlikely to survive for very long. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sometimes referred to as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), can be caused by viruses, bacteria, and parasites. These organisms can’t live or thrive on hard surfaces — including toilet seats. Bacterial STIs can’t survive outside of your body’s mucous membranes. For this reason, it’s nearly impossible to contract an STI from a toilet seat. All STIs can be transmitted through various forms of sexual activity, including: skin-to-skin contact, genital-to-genital contact and oral-genital contact. So there is no need to worry on public toilets related to STIs.

Give up spicy food during pregnancy, it can burn the eyes of your baby.

Image
Myth suggests that spicy foods eaten during pregnancy can burn the baby’s eyes, resulting in blindness. Spicy foods also have been blamed for miscarriages and the induction of labor. While those associations might sound plausible to some people, they aren’t real. Spicy foods can increase a pregnant woman’s risk of heartburn, however. Repeated heartburn during pregnancy may mean that the baby will be born with a head full of hair, if we are to believe another old wives’ tale. Spicy food will not harm a developing baby. If eating spicy food bothers your stomach or you have an aversion to the taste, you can choose to avoid these foods. But you do not need to be concerned about your baby's health and development either way. Not only is spicy food safe for your baby but it may have some benefits too. Spicy food may keep you healthy during your pregnancy and it may help prevent your baby from becoming a picky eater later on.  You can eat spicy food if you like to eat it.

Misinformation from medias affecting the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents.

Image
Digital media are increasingly influencing the lives of young people. Around the world, adolescents are using digital media as a platform to learn, experience, and communicate. Young people use smartphones, tablets and computers to engage in diverse online activities, such as social networking, instant messaging/texting, and browsing websites/search engines. This connectivity creates both positive opportunities but also challenges on many fronts. Unfortunately, the very features of the Internet that facilitate new opportunities also create new risks for young people’s SRH. Common harms have been organised in the following categories: contact, conduct and content. CONTACT • Online sexual grooming • Online sexual abuse and exploitation CONDUCT • Discrimination and cyberbullying • Non-consensual sharing of sexts • Revenge porn CONTENT • Unwelcome exposure to sexually explicit content • Inappropriate or harmful content (e.g. violent pornography) • Misinformation  Contact Harmful contact r

Inadequate sex education leads to develop myths and misconceptions on sexual and reproductive health.

Image
Poor sex education may partially account for questions that reveal a lack of basic understanding about pregnancy risks in non-penetrative sexual acts and the protection afforded by different contraceptive methods. Sex education doesn't means how to have sex but it aims to improve knowledge and understanding and to correct misconception by providing age appropriate, scientific accurate and cultural relevant knowledge. As child attains puberty there are numerous changes happen in his body and mind, here the role of sex education comes into picture. Lack of proper information makes adolescents vulnerable to many problems: Many adolescents are unaware and unprepared to protect them from sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy. Lack of skill to refuse unwanted sex from peers or adults who use physical force or emotional pressure. Inequitable gender norms and attitudes. Many adolescents use wrong ways to get knowledge like pornography and this can lead to sex crimes. Providi

Myths and misconceptions related to Sexual and Reproductive health of adolescents : Influence of cultural elements.

Image
Culture has a great impact on the matters of belief, practices and behaviors of its followers.  How adolescents are raised, how they need to behave, and how openly they can discuss the matters of sexuality depend on the culture.  Conservative societies forbid the discussion on the adolescent problems, and exhibit more gender inequality.  Sexual taboos have their root in cultural beliefs and have important implications in the sexual health and morbidity.  Many societies still hold misconceptions about menstruation, and masturbation. Elders never educate on the basic concepts of bodily changes that occur during adolescence, keeping them in dark. There has always been an issue of comfort regarding sharing of knowledge on sexuality with offspring in India.   Due to social stigma, adolescent girls are not educated about menarche before hand. A recent study found that only one third of rural girls were told about the menstruati

The physical changes of adolescents.

Although some of the physical changes that happen during adolescence are internal and not visible, others can be seen easily by others. These obvious changes in the body can affect how adults and peers of both sexes view and treat young people.  Changes in female Females will see changes in where fat appears on their body. For example, breasts become fuller and hips grow wider. Females typically experience their first menstruation (or period) during adolescence. Early on, periods can be irregular and affected by illness, stress, and even exercise. Changes in male Males’ shoulders become broader and their muscles get bigger. The penis and testicles also grow, and males will begin to experience erections and ejaculations, both voluntary and involuntary (sometimes happening while asleep). Males’ voices also deepen during this time and may crack during the shift.  How to solve the adolescents problem with their physical changes  1. Let adolescents know that what they are going through is

Are adolescence too into their appearance?

Image
Adolescence is a psychological and social change that grows a young person from childhood to young adult independence and identity; puberty is a chemical and physiological change that leads to sexual maturity. Adolescent change often begins earlier than puberty; but when puberty coincides with the onset of adolescence, the adolescent process can become more emotionally intense.  While the child was comparatively unselfconscious of personal looks, with puberty and adolescence, physical appearance becomes a primary concern. How best to look, that is the pressing question? Now popular icons and models in the media and advertising market place provide a compelling answer in the forms of idealized models of sexual attractiveness and beauty which can turn out to have a lot of ugly consequences for young people.
